Abano Terme: clay therapy in the comfort of the hotel

Bio-thermal clay: a effective natural anti-inflammatory

The thermal clay we use in Abano Terme for our fango treatments is recognised and certified by a European patent. Our organic thermal clay relieves joint and muscle pain and has remineralising, muscle relaxing, analgesic and anti-inflammatory properties. This certified and completely natural product also has an excellent antioxidant effect on the skin and is considered an effective means of natural detoxification of the entire body. In addition, the organic thermal clay from our hotel in Abano Terme stimulates the body to produce endorphins, a hormone of happiness and well-being.

Recognised quality

We are committed to offering our guests a treatment of the highest quality, recognised by the Italian health care system, through the continuous training of our mud therapists. The method we use to carry out our fango treatments is certified by a European patent.

Rigorous preparation

We have chosen to use only 100 % natural clay from the Colli Euganei. Our technical director pays great attention to the maturing process: when the minerals dissolved in our hyperthermal water come into contact with the mud, at the right temperature and exposure to sunlight, an organic biofilm with extraordinary anti-inflammatory power is formed.

Highly effective

Joint and muscle pain is relieved and prevented by our organic thermal clay. The clay has exceptional remineralising, muscle relaxing, analgesic and anti-inflammatory properties:

  • It releases tensions.
  • It improves joint function.
  • It lowers blood pressure and reduces stress.
  • It promotes blood circulation.
  • It is a natural anti-inflammatory.
  • It has an antioxidant effect on the skin.
  • It revitalises the body and calms the mind.
  • It relaxes the mind by stimulating the production of endorphins.

15 min.
1. Mandatory medical examination

Mandatory medical examination for admission to treatment with a specialized doctor.

25 min.
2. Scrub

The scrub prepares the skin for the spa treatment, it deep cleanses it, allowing minerals and beneficial substances to penetrate better.

15-20 min.
3. Application

Application of mud / Thermal Organic Clay: is applied to the skin at a temperature between 38° and 42°C (according to medical prescription) for a period that can vary from 15 to 20 minutes.

8-10 min.
4. Shower + Thermal bath

Lukewarm shower on the body and fresh on the legs, followed by a thermal bath for 8-10 minutes at a temperature between 36° and 38°C with ozone micro-bubbles to reactivate circulation.

15-45 min.
5. Rest

After the mud therapy, the guest must rest at least 30 minutes waiting for the “sweat reaction”.

25-55 min.
6. Massage

At the end of the resting phase, the guest undergoes a reaction to the mud therapeutic massage to promote vascularisation, relieve tension and tone up muscles.

Thermal treatments

Ozone

Increase the healing effects of your thermal bath through the use of ozone. The addition of the delicate ozone hydromassage to the balneotherapy session will multiply its effects, allowing greater venous and lymphatic oxygenation of the tissues. The healing effects of ozone therapy are improved circulation and an antibacterial, antiviral and antifungal effect.

Prevention is better than cure! Find out more about the pathologies that benefit from spa treatment. Our strict fango therapy protocols are based on Scientific Research and are coordinated by the Pietro D'Abano® Institute of Thermal Medicine Research.

Scientific research

In 2005 the Centro Studi Termali Pietro D'Abano®, in collaboration with the University of Padua, showed that the mature fango/organic clay therapy of Abano and Montegrotto Terme is as effective against inflammation as the NSAID-based drug therapy, but without side effects on the gastrointestinal tract.

The maturation process of the Euganean thermal fango allows to obtain a mud rich in microalgae (cyanobacteria). In particular, the Euganean thermal clay contains a particular type of microalgae, the cyanobacteria Phormidium SP ETS05. Phormidium SP ETS05 is deposited at the Institut Pasteur in Paris and is protected by a European patent. Phormidium SP ETS05 produces glycolipid substances with a high anti-inflammatory effect without side effects. Thanks to the scientific research and the support of the Pietro D'Abano® Thermal Baths Study Centre, the Euganean thermal mud obtained the European Patent in 2013, a recognition of its uniqueness and protection throughout the world: an authentic organic medicine for a natural and certified cure.

Thermal bio-clay

The thermal bio-clay of our hotel with thermal baths in Italy is made from mature mud extracted from the Lake Costa within the Colli Euganei Regional Park. It has been known for millennia for its healing properties. This is because applying thermal bio-clay is the most effective way to release and transmit the healing force of our thermal water to the body. It is a 100% natural mud which remains immersed in our thermal water at a temperature of about 38 degrees for at least sixty days. This “maturation” period generates an organic biofilm of extraordinary anti-inflammatory strength. The mud is applied directly to the skin and left for about 15 minutes at a temperature ranging between 37 °C and 42 °C. The treatment finishes with a tonic shower and a thermal bath in Italy.
